City Council Minutes
August 16, 2005
----------------------------
General Building
The proposed 2006 General Building Budget is $73,441. This is an
increase of$14,488 from the 2005 budget. The main increases in this fund
include repair, maintenance and services which include improvements to
the City Hall, and a reserve fund for future upkeep and maintenance of the
building.
Roads and Streets
The proposed 2006 Roads and Streets Budget is $495,595. This is an
increase of$89,561 from the 2005 budget. One of the main increases in
this fund is under wages. The Street department is requesting to hire
another street maintenance person. The other main increases are from
engineering fees, equipment reserve fund, capital outlay (street projects)
and repair, maintenance and services.
Mike Loven suggested that if the Council bonds for Government Drive and
doesn't need to make a payment until 2007, the money budgeted under
capital outlay for 2006 could be used to improve more of the gravel roads
\.. in the city.
The Council discussed the possibility of the City hiring an engineer. No
decision was made but the Council felt the timing may be right to
investigate the idea due to the number of projects the City is proposing in
the near future.
Mike Loven indicated that a drainage problem has developed along the
south side of Government Drive in the area of the new building that has
recently been constructed. He indicated that after meeting with the City
Engineer, the Council street liaison, a representative of Anderson
Brothers, and himself, the recommendation is to correct the drainage
problem by draining the water to the west side of the road. Mike indicated
that he has received a bid for$9,100 to do the work.
COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN MOVED TO WAIVE THE SECOND BID
REQUIREMENT FOR THE WORK BY THE DAVID LAUER BUILDING
TO SOLVE DRAINAGE ISSUES AND THAT THE MONEY COME FROM
THE CAPITAL OUTLAY FUND IN 2005. COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD
SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 7-0.
Mike Loven indicated that he would be meeting with the owner of the Ice
Cream shop on Government Drive in relation to the same type of problem.
