AGENDA ITEM #11 .3
REPORT TO
CITY COUNCIL
Date: July 5, 2005
Subject: Drug and Alcohol Policy
Report: Attached are two proposed Drug and Alcohol
Policies. One is for commercial drivers and is required by
Federal Law. The other is for all City employees. In the
`.. past the City has had one policy which incorporated both
city employees and commercial drivers. According to the
LMC, we need to have two separate policies. These two
policies are similar to the one policy that we had. The only
main difference is that the existing policy includes random
testing for all employees in safety sensitive positions. The
new policy does not require random testing for firefighters,
however it does allow for reasonable suspicion testing for
firefighters.
The City Attorney has reviewed both of these policies.
Council Action Requested: Council motion adopting both
drug and alcohol policies.
