Industrial Park Committee Meeting Minutes
June 1, 2005
Present: Tom Ryan, Mark Jurchen, Justin Bolz-Andolshek, Dawn Bittner, Amy
Collins, Sandy Peine
Granite City Ready Mix gave a proposal to the Committee regarding moving their
existing plant from Cross Lake to the Pequot Lakes Industrial Park. They indicated that
they would prefer 7-10 acres of land with a minimum of 5 acres. The committee reviewed
the request and felt that the use would not be a good fit for the industrial park due to
traffic in the park and safety of trucks entering onto Highway 371. Other reasons are as
follows:
The Pequot Lakes City Council recently decided to expand city sewer and water to
Morehouse Drive to service the lots in question. The theory behind City involvement in
Industrial Parks is to encourage and foster business growth in clustered areas that would
provide capital investment (future tax base) as well as employment for area citizens.
Each lot has the potential to welcome a new business that may create any number of jobs
as well as provide a new building, which generates much needed tax revenue. To sell 3-4
lots to one business that provides a limited number of jobs, some seasonal, and
collectively a lower tax base than would be from 4 potential new buildings if sold to
multiple businesses, could possible reduce the overall number of jobs and tax base that
could otherwise be created from those parcels.
The committee discussed other possibilities to somehow find a permanent spot for
Granite City. It was decided that PLADO would meet to discuss the issue and then get
back to Granite City with other options.
-e-4
Sandra Peine
City Clerk
