City Council Minutes <br /> December 18, 2007 <br /> Page 3 of 6 <br /> ------------------------------- <br /> There being no further comments from the public, the Mayor closed the <br /> public comment period. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL MOVED TO ADOPT RESOLUTION 07-32 <br /> A RESOLUTION IDENTIFYING THE ALTERNATE ALIGNMENT AS THE <br /> PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE FOR THE EXPANSION OF T.H. 371 IN <br /> THE CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES. COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD <br /> SECONDED THE MOTION. <br /> Council Member Oraskovich thanked the business people for voicing their <br /> concerns during the study. Council Member Oraskovich indicated that he <br /> prefers the alternate route and stated that working with the downtown and <br /> using the downtown revitalization plan will be helpful. <br /> Council Member Sjoblad indicated that the alternate route would be best <br /> for the City. He indicated that the City needs to work together. <br /> Council Member Nagel indicated he feels the alternate route will be best <br /> for the City in the long run. He indicated his concerns regarding the traffic <br /> doubling in the next 20 years and the safety of the kids and older people <br /> with a through town route. <br /> Council Member Ryan stated that the resolution just adopted is a <br /> nonbinding resolution. He noted that the information in the resolution is <br /> inaccurate, false and deceptive. He stated he felt that safety is no longer a <br /> reason for the alternate route due to the three at-grade intersections. He <br /> further noted that the livelihoods of many businesses depend on a through <br /> town route. <br /> Mayor Malecha stated she has been involved in this process for the past <br /> seven years beginning with Sibley Township. She indicated that she has <br /> attended many meetings and study groups on both routes. Mayor Malecha <br /> noted that it would be unsafe for the school buses with the through town <br /> route. She noted that community needs to focus on us rather than on me <br /> and pull together. <br /> Mayor Malecha called for the vote: <br /> MOTION CARRIED 4-1. COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN VOTED AGAINST <br /> THE MOTION. <br /> The Council recessed at 6:41 p.m. and was reconvened at 6:47 p.m. <br /> 5. Adopt Final Levys — General Fund and HRA <br />
