It looks like you are in the
$2500 neighborhood for costs.
This sketch only shows an 110V outlet for the power point projector. I assume that the
projector is going to be ceiling mounted, with the cords going through the ceiling to an
equipment cabinet. There are several things here that should be at least considered:
• If you are using power point should there be speakers. With this size room I
would like to see 2 or 4 ceiling speakers so that everyone could hear without
blasting the volume too high up front.
• With the speakers it would be easy to add a microphone, perhaps cordless with
the receiver in the equipment cabinet. This may make it easier for some
presenters to be heard.
• You probably need a VHS and DVD player for most of the new or current safety
and training videos. The computer may be a laptop that the presenter brings into
the room, or could be part of a fixed server that connects to the department office
computers. There probably should be a computer jack in the front that connects
to the power point projector.
• There should be a video cable for each of the type of devices to the projector;
RG6, component video, and Ethernet.
• If security is a concern, the cabinet and the projector mount can be locked
enclosures with a remote IR control. This will allow the units to be operated
without unlocking the cabinet.
• There is or was cable TV in the building. Does the fire department need to
monitor weather or news in the event of a significant emergency? The cable
could be routed into the cabinet and fed to the projector for team monitoring.
Same for AM or FM radio.
• A camera could be used as a training aid, document training performed, and
provide security when the room is not occupied. A fireman could demonstrate a
procedure, and the instructor could review the performance on tape with the
student.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Thanks,
Karl Moon, President
Moonlighting & Electric Co
