The truck has been painted and needs some <br /> lights installed. The total cost for this truck will be under$5000.00. We had the truck <br /> painted at the Body Works in Brainerd for$500.00. This price was for labor and using <br /> their equipment. <br /> The FEMA grants are in the second or third group of allocations. Minnesota fire <br /> departments are not receiving any significant grants so far. <br /> The pancake breakfast was successful this summer and a new record of 1076 people <br /> served was established. Our profit was approximately$3800.00. Sean Stoehr moved from <br /> the area and is off the department. The City has a new policy for city employees <br /> concerning harassment,personnel,technology, and tobacco use. The department received <br /> a used ambulance from North for$1500.00. The vehicle has emergency lights and a <br /> siren. The police department donated a radio for it. The vehicle will probably be used as a <br /> command center. We have applied for a matching DNR grant to purchase radios,pagers, <br /> and fire hose. The department presented a fire prevention program for the kindergarten <br /> thru second grade at Eagle View Elementary School. We also hosted a fire prevention <br /> open house on October 11 at the fire station. The event was very well attended. Several <br /> fire fighters helped with the Breezy Point community fest last August. Over 450 people <br /> attended the event. <br /> The ambulance donated to us by North will probably be used for the RIT(Rapid <br /> Intervention Team)program which Pequot Lakes, Crosslake,Ideal Township,Mission <br /> Township,and Nisswa departments are members of. Pine River is also expected to be <br /> active with the group. This team is used primarily for back-up for fire personnel who <br /> enter burning structures. Our local departments generally do not have enough man power <br /> to provide this very important team. The ambulance has 120,000 miles on it,which is <br /> relatively low mileage for a diesel powered vehicle. <br /> City Clerk Peine mentioned the city also recently received an OSHA grant for$4100.00 <br /> which will allow the department to purchase 30 new safety vests for fire fighters. These <br /> vests are really needed for night time incidents on a roadway. <br /> Chief Nelson announced that Tina Nolden will also be leaving the department in the near <br /> future. She has lost interest. The City has granted permission to the department to <br /> increase the number of fire personnel to 30 members. The department has experienced <br /> poor fire fighter turnout for some recent calls,which may be good reason to increase our <br /> membership. Messerchmidt and Thurlow mentioned there may be a time in the future <br /> when we consider some full time personnel. Brainerd has six full time fire fighters. <br /> The underground water storage tanks are all OK. The department lost some interest in <br /> these water storage tanks when they leaked. Some were sealed and some are in the water <br /> table and they all seem to be good. We have interest in some kind of water storage or lake <br />
