I, Pequot Lakes Police Dept. Report to the City Council September 28, 2006 So far for the month of September the Department continues it's above average incident count with again completing more than 400 ICRs. Activities: For the month of September, The Reserves, Part time and Full time Officers recorded 227 separate business security checks. A couple Reserves helped with the Taste of Pequot festival on the 16th, providing crowd control and assistance. Several Reserves have been assisting with security during the High School football games. Deputy Chief Ryan is continuing to work on security issues with the School District. Ryan and a couple of the Reserves have been working on a presentation for the school district on the security camera systems for both the High School and Elementary School, showing what part of the systems are working and what parts are not. This will enable the school district to formulate updates to provide better security for the staff and students. Chief Braam has also worked with the School District, by putting on two class presentations; one regarding gangs and the second about drug use prevention. Officer Gartner and K9 Shadow will be giving presentations as well in the next couple months. The Department received it's first ever Certificate of Compliance from the POST Board, for complete compliance with legislative mandates and POST Board rules. On October 9th Officer Josh Gartner will receive an award from the State for his participation and dedication to the Safe and Sober program. This will be the first time a Pequot Lakes Police Dept. officer has received one of these awards. Officer Gartner, K9 Shadow and Part-time Officer Peterson gave a presentation to the residents of the Heritage House nursing home facility. Chief Braam represented the City and Police Department this past weekend by participating in the Harlem Ambassador's Basketball game that took place at the Pequot High School. He made some baskets, had lots of fun and was only sat on twice by the Harlem Coach/Player. Training: Sept 11 - 12th: Chief Braam and Deputy Chief Ryan attended the required Precision Driving course at the Hibbing Training facility. Sept 20—21 st: Chief Braam and Chief Rudek of the Breezy Point Police Dept. hosted the 2-day annual, Fall State Chief's Conference at the Breezy Point resort.
