SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PEQUOT LAKES CITY COUNCIL <br /> TUESDAY, MAY 23, 2006 <br /> PEQUOT LAKES CITY HALL <br /> Members Present: Mayor C. Malecha, Council Members Bolz-Andolshek, <br /> Nagel, Pfeiffer, Sjoblad, and Ryan <br /> Members Absent: Council Member Greer <br /> Staff Present: Sandra Peine, City Clerk; Tim Houle and Mike Rude, City <br /> Engineers; Jerry Braam, Chief of Police <br /> Call Meeting to Order <br /> Mayor Malecha called the special meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Mayor Malecha <br /> indicated that the purpose of the special meeting is to discuss the proposed <br /> layout for the Sibley Street intersection in relation to the Highway 371 Expansion <br /> Project. Property owners surrounding the intersection were invited to attend. <br /> City Engineer Tim Houle reviewed previous discussions and suggestions from <br /> MnDOT, the Highway 371 Committee, and the City Council regarding the <br /> intersection. Tim also indicated that the Council's intention is to gather input from <br /> surrounding property owners. <br /> Mayor Malecha received public comment on the intersection. The following <br /> issues were discussed. <br /> • Concerns about delivery truck turning circle <br /> • Access in the proposed cul-de-sac on the south end of Front Street east of <br /> Hwy 371 <br /> • Comments about a full access intersection between Main Street/CSAH 11 <br /> and Front Street/CSAH 17 <br /> • A question as to whether or not "all" properties can be saved when <br /> considering service roads <br /> • There was discussion about a right in off of TH 371 onto East Sibley, <br /> using the DNR parcel north of UBC as a recreational parking lot. <br /> The Council thanked those in attendance for their comments. <br /> Part Time Police Officers <br /> Chief Braam explained how the two part time officers would be financed. He <br /> noted that the City received a grant of which $3,000 will be used to finance these <br /> officers. He further explained that the officers will work on Friday and Saturday <br />
