i
Pequot Lakes Police Dept.
Report to the City Council
August 31, 2006
The month of August has continued to be very busy like July, with the Department completing
more than 400 ICRs, which is more than double our average.
Activities:
The Reserves have added another officer, bringing their total to 7. These include: Craig and Julie
Friday, Chris Melberg, Elise Savage, Carl Borleis, Randy Ryan and now Tim Leagjeld.
For the month of August, The Reserves, Part time and Full time Officers recorded 397 separate
business security checks. Several Reserves helped with the Jenkins street dance on Aug 26th,
providing crowd control and assistance. Both part time officers worked as well, as Chief Braam
and Officer Gartner were running a State Safe and Sober Campaign. With the additional Police
presence the dance was a great success, as well as a safe event. 21 vehicles were left overnight in
the parking lots of Jenkins because the drivers got a ride home with a sober party, instead of
getting behind the wheel. The Safe and Sober shifts had 30 vehicle stops, with only 1 resulting in
a driver being arrested for DWI.
Officer Hogan was able to assist the City of Breezy Point with their 1St annual City Community
Day festival using the dept motorcycle.
The City of Jenkins joined the City of Pequot Lakes on August 3`d, with the implementation of
Administrative Offenses tickets.
Deputy Chief Ryan has been working with the School district on upgrading their complete
security system throughout the district buildings.
Chief Braam and Office Manager Wedan assisted the Pine River Police Dept with updating their
entire Police Dept. Policy Manual. Chief Braam also assisted their dept with upgrading their
Administrative Offenses ordinance.
Chief Braam has been working with LADID (the Lakes Area Drug Task Force), the Minnesota
Fugitive Task Force and the FBI Drug Task Force to implement a more effective and efficient
working relationship together.
Training:
Aug 14— 18th: Deputy Chief John Ryan attended School Resource Officer training, provided
by the St Paul Police Dept.
Aug 21 —24`h: Office Josh Gartner and K9 Shadow attended Drug Interdiction with a K-9
training,to continue to improve their skills together as a team.
