Northeast Sanitary Sewer Improvements:
Last month City Staff discussed the possible sanitary sewer extension from County Road
112 to the beauty salon next door to City Hall. There were concerns with the waste from
the beauty salon entering the septic tank and drainfield. The former Church was for sale
and the potential buyer would also use it as a beauty salon, sharing the septic system with
the beauty salon next door and the small house in the rear.
The east half of the Country Corner Mall share a septic system with Preferred Properties
real estate.
City Staff had the ISTS tanks and drainfields for the parcels directly west of City Hall,
including Country Corner, located, inspected and pumped by an independent inspector at
the City's expense. Although the tanks had not been maintained in a long time, both
ISTS were found to be compliant. That only means they weren't failing.
Install Holding Tanks:
The chemicals from the beauty salons cannot discharge into the ISTS. The former
Church and the current beauty salon would each need to install a holding tank. The tanks
would need to be pumped as needed, every month or two, depending on the use. Interior
plumbing would need to be done so the beauty salon waste would go to the holding tank
and the sewage would go the regular sewage tank. An alarm would need to be installed
to indicate when tank was full and needed to be pumped.
Approximate estimate of expenses to install holding tank:
1. 1,500 gallon tank: $750
2. Tank Installation: 500
3. Tank Alarm: 100
4. Electric Hookup: 350
5. Pumping(Annual $500 - $600) 550
6. Interior Plumbing (Unknown):
Approximate Total: $2,250 for each tank.
Sanitary Sewer Extension:
The City Engineer has estimated the extension of sanitary sewer and water from County
Road 112 could be approximately$120,000.00. The following would hookup to the
sanitary sewer: Country Corner Mall, the real estate office, former Church, current
salon/small house and City Hall. Approximate assessment amount: $24,000.00 each.
each property owner would be responsible for the plumbing from the curb stop to their
building.
Approximate estimate of expenses to extend sanitary sewer and water:
1. Approximate assessment: $24,000
2. WAC 4,900
3. SAC 4,900
4. Plumbing from curb stop (Unknown)
Approximate Total: $33,800
