Minutes of the Pequot Lakes Community Library
Board Meeting
December 13, 2005
President,Nancy Adams, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. All board members
were present as was Mary Pfeiffer, representing the City Council. There were no guests.
Claire Nagel moved, and Lydia Loven seconded, that the minutes of the November 15
meeting be approved as written. Motion carried unanimously.
Dave Anderson, Business Manager, presented the financial report. There is a total of
$4,826.20 in the checking account, and $52,000 in investments. For the year 2005, we
have spent less than the budget and taken in considerably more cash than estimated. We
have had a very good year. John Longnecker moved, and Claire Nagel seconded, that the
finance report be accepted. Motion carried unanimously. Everyone thanked Dave for
his work.
Committee reports:
Volunteers remain in good standing. We have several new volunteers who are helping
to alleviate the absence of people gone for the winter. Other volunteers are stepping up
to help fill holes.
The Winter Reading Program for adults has been publicized and will start on January
2°a, 2006. There will be a drawing for those who turn in their reading sheets. We have
been given 25 very nice Pequot Lakes Library logo book bags and some of these may be
the"prize." Nancy and Donna Olson will look into filling a book bag for KLKS
Auction.
Nancy reported that she had checked with the State Health Department and, yes
indeed, we do need the $75 permit to sell pies and ice cream at the three summer
festivals. It was decided to purchase the permit.
There was a discussion regarding the fundraising Tea. It is to be on August 1201 at the
Baptist Church, most likely at 2 p.m. After a good discussion, it was decided that it
would be an Author's Tea. Lydia will check with Will Weaver to see if he would speak.
Nancy will check with Once Upon A Crime to have them evaluate the list of volunteer
speakers she has. The Library should plan to host a Discussion Afternoon in the summer
when two people will speak on health and hospice. This will be the start of a Speaker's
Series and there will be no charge.
The 501c3 issue, while still under consideration, is tabled at the moment. Things are
going along well with the City and as stated, "If it's not broke, don't fix it." While there
are reasons for making the change, there are strong reasons for not. We will continue to
monitor the situation.
Nancy Adams motioned, and John Longnecker seconded, that an amendment to the
by-laws be made that will make all terms 3 years, on a rotating "class schedule." Board
members will still be eligible for three-three year terms. We are continuing to look for
one new board member to fill the vacancy.
Sam Hennies moved, and Lydia Loven seconded,to adopt the Conflict of Interest
policy. All board members are asked to complete the form and turn it in to Nancy.
