Members
absent: Claire Nagel. Guests: Harry Olson
Ann Hutchings moved, and Lydia Loven seconded, that the minutes of the June 20, 2006,
be approved. Motion carried.
Dave Anderson,Business Manager, gave the treasurer's report. As of July 14,2006,
there is$7,853.58 in the checking account. In the"Rainy Day"certificate, there is
$10,214.37, in the Savings Account there is$11,143.75,and the two Endowment
Certificates total $30,822.14($20,606.58&$10,215.56). Profit from Pie Sales at the 4t'
of July was$229.35 and from Bean Hole Day was$314.25. There was a long discussion
as to future sales of pie and ice cream. Although no decision was made, everyone should
try to think of another way to raise money. Thee was also a discussion of other places to
send the June fundraising letter. It is important that we not contact anyone who would be
considered for a donation for the Basket Auction because we only want to contact once a
year for a donation.
Committee reports:
Volunteers are doing well. Several people have returned for the summer.
The Summer Reading Program has 87 young people signed up. Hopefully, all will not
complete the requirements as we only planned on t-shirts for 25; a good problem to have.
Publicity is going well.
The garden tea was discussed. People are needed to help set up on Friday evening,
August 1 lt'. Lydia is looking for teapots for the event.
New Business:
. It was brought up that perhaps it is time to have everyone responsible for their own
Iibrary card. While the idea of storing cards at the library was a wonderful one when we
had 200 cards,we now have too many cards to make it feisable and, from time to time,
the cards get mixed up and cause difficulty. We could write a short letter explaining the
situation to cardholders and ask them to hold their own cards.
. A discussion was held about people with no library cards using the computers. Should
these people be required to purchase a library card? After much discussion, it was
decided that we should have a"computer use donation container"with a note saying
something to the effect that"should you not have a library card, you are free to use our
computers, but we ask for a donation for its use."
. Since we have two extra computers donated to us, should a 51'computer be added for
adult use? The original intention was for two to be placed in the children's room. Donna
and Nancy will work on this and will contact Nathan.
. Lydia will bring a list of possible authors to the August meeting to be considered for
the Garden Tea next year.
John Longnecker moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
