February 7,2006 Page 3
Proposal for Various Road Improvements
City of Pequot Lakes
Hubbard Street, Davis Street, and Austin Street(from S. Oak St.to Pequot Boulevard)
These roads are presently unpaved. The City is proposing to provide minimal Class 5 aggregate base to
the existing roadbeds and bituminous pave the roadway similar to the previous paving of Pillsbury Street
from South Oak Street to Pequot Boulevard (maintain about the same width, little or no tree cleating,
possibly some grading at Pequot Blvd and Davis).
We will perform the following tasks for these improvements:
+ Make a site visit to measure length, width, and note any other construction issues
+ Estimate quantities
+ Prepare an Advertisement for Bids and assist the City in distributing
+ Attend Bid Opening and review bids with the City
It is our understanding the City will provide the specifications and observe construction.
It is important to note that the estimated quantities we have proposed to provide will be based upon rough
field measurements in lieu of comprehensive field surveys. There will most likely need to be modifications
made to these quantities in the field during construction. As such, we recommend the City set aside a
contingency of about 10% of the contractor's bid.
It is our understanding that this will not be a special assessment project, so we have not included any
time to assist the City with such activities.
To perform the above tasks, we estimate our effort at$2,800.
outh Oak Street
Traffic continues to increase on this road, the pavement will need to be replaced in the not too distant
future, and drainage has been and will continue to be an issue. The City is proposing to survey and
engineer necessary widening, ditching, maybe some curb and gutter and storm sewer, a possible trail on
the east side, Class 5 aggregate base, and bituminous paving.
This will be a fairly big project for the City, and thus, to balance yearly budgets on road improvements, it
is our understanding that the City has slated this project for 2007.
If the City will stays with this schedule, we can provide a proposal in late 2006/early 2007.
This is the type of project where the City may want us to perform a study with estimated cost for a couple
of roadway section/width alternatives before authorizing us to proceed with the design and construction
document phase.
Lakewood Avenue and Lakeside Avenue
These roads are presently unpaved. The City is proposing to provide minimal Class 5 aggregate base to
the existing roadbeds and bituminous pave the roadways (maintain about the same width or about 18 feet
wide and little or no tree clearing).
We will perform the following tasks for these improvements:
make a site visit to measure ip: ;gth, width, and nr,`e any other construction issues
— + Estimate quantities
