Pequot Lakes Police Dept.
Report to the City Council
June 28, 2006
As of this date, for the month of June the Department has completed more than 334 ICRs.
Equipment:
The Durango was put into service; it was repainted black and decaled to match the other squads.
The Department recently ordered the new AED that it received a$1000.00 grant for from the
Central Minnesota EMS Region. This new AED will be put into Deputy Chief Ryan's vehicle.
The North Country First Responders have notified Chief Braam that they will be providing an
AED for Officer Hogan's squad, which will mean that all Pequot police vehicles will be
equipped with an AED.
Activities:
The Reserve Unit program has been providing 2 reservists on duty both Friday and Saturday
nights almost every weekend. There are currently 6 total reservists, with 2 new members that
have just joined in the past week. They have helped area businesses by providing security checks
of all the businesses in Pequot Lakes and Jenkins as well as out-of-town house checks. To date
they have recorded 183 separate business checks in which they have found 2 open doors. They
have assisted PLPD Officers with locating suspicious vehicles, people, source of noise
complaints and possible intoxicated drivers. All of the reserves will help with crowd control
during the 4th of July festivities, fireworks and parade.
Part-time Officers Kate Petersen and Brian Madison have made it possible for the Department to
provide an extra officer for patrol on Friday and Saturday night during the peek traffic times.
They have both been very active in helping increase safety on our streets and roads by engaging
in traffic control, providing backup at DWI traffic stops as well as other general public assistance
calls. Officer Madison also filled in on a Sunday when the scheduled officer had to be gone.
The Department's implementation of the Administrative Offenses Ordinance during the past
month has gone very well. For the first month the total generated income for Community
Policing efforts is $6,000.00. Officers are still reporting that those drivers that were given the
opportunity to participate in the program were receptive to the benefits of not having the traffic
offenses going onto their driving record and the chance to correct their driving behavior.
The Department has received notification that it was awarded an $840.00 grant, by the Alcohol
& Gambling Enforcement division of the Dept of Public Safety. This grant will be used to cover
the costs of providing and implementing increased Alcohol Compliance checks and enforcement.
The Department is busy preparing for the 4th of July activities and Bean Hole Days. All of the
PD Staff, Officers and Reserves will be on duty on the 4th, working during the parade. Officer
