May 18, 2006 TO: Pequot Lakes City Council Mayor Cathy Malecha Clerk Sandy Peine RE: WAC & SAC Request/Buschmann Property The Housing Authority of Pequot Lakes closed on the Buschmann property located at 30949 S. Oak St., on Monday May 15, 2006. Plans are proceeding to remove the old structures within the next two weeks. The home will not be burned, for fear of damage to the white pines on the property. Excavation bids have been sought and the low bid to demolish and remove debris of$4200 has been accepted. Kramer, Leas, and Deleo have received the bid to survey and plat the current four 50' lots into three 66'parcels, for the construction of three new homes. The cost of replatting will be $5,050.00. The HRA Board is grateful for your recent financial assistance towards the above costs. They respectfully request that you consider waiving the water and sewer hook-ups fees. This expense would increase the cost of the homes and lessen their affordability. It is the responsibility of the Housing Authority, as provided in the Charter Agreement with the City of Pequot Lakes, to determine the housing goals of the city and work towards that end. The removal of blighted homes, replacing them with new affordable single-family homes, is one of these goals. The Wac and Sac fees charged for this project are essentially a charge to the city itself. The benefit to the city is the demolishing of unsafe deteriorating structures, increased tax base,providing for stable family homes as opposed to rental units, and meeting demands of expected growth in our community.
