06/06/2006 16:34 FAX 2392623335 Sutton Office fa002/002
KERMIT S . SUTTON
June 6, 2006
The Honorable Mayor Cathy Malecha
And Distinguished Council Members
City of Pequot Lakes
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes, Minnesota 56472
RE: Resolution 06-23, Re-routing of TH 371 Corridor
Dear Mayor and Council Members;
Over the past twelve months I have purchased and re-developed the former Pequot
Lakes City Offices and Fire Hall. To date I have committed and invested considerable sums
in this project in order to provide a quality retail center.
Prior to my acquisition of this property,I received assurance from Officials of the
City of Pequot Lakes that the proposed redevelopment of TH 371 would follow the existing
`-- right-of-way corridor. I received further assurance from the Minnesota Department of
Transportation that the City of Pequot Lakes had committed to the "thru-town"option for
the improvement, which had been also approved by MNDOT. I relied upon these
representations in determining to commit to this project.
It is now my understanding that there may be a proposal to reconsider this selection
in favor of a"by-pass"option.
Needless to say, I am quite concerned with the negative impact that the "by-pass"
option would have upon the viability of the Firehall Center project especially in light of the
City's prior representations.
I understand that this issue was previously thoroughly discussed and thoughtfully
determined. I would submit that no material circumstances have changed since that
decision and that the City should therefore stand by its earlier commitments.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Kermit S. Sutton
715 Tenth Street South • Naples,Florida 34102# (239)263-8333•FAX(239)262-3335
kermit@suttonco.org
