MnDOT Memo <br /> May 9, 2006 <br /> Page 3 of 3 <br /> WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? <br /> • Meeting scheduled for May 23rd with property owners in the area of Sibley Street <br /> to discuss Sibley intersection options <br /> • Special meeting in mid June with MnDOT to finalize layout issues <br /> • MnDOT will take up to three months to review and approve the layout <br /> • Municipal consent period will begin <br /> • The City Council will schedule a public hearing on the final layout <br /> • The City Council approves or disapproves the final layout <br /> WHAT IF THE COUNCIL DOES NOT GIVE MUNICIPAL CONSENT? <br /> If the Council does not give municipal consent,the following could happen: <br /> 1) The MnDOT Commissioner may make modifications requested by the <br /> municipality <br /> 2) The MnDOT Commissioner may decide not to proceed with the project <br /> 3) The MnDOT Commissioner could refer the final layout to an appeal board <br /> CONCLUSION: <br /> MnDOT has stated that the highway will not go around town. MnDOT has also stated <br /> that the highway expansion is necessary due to safety reasons. MnDOT believes that their <br /> decision to go through-town is supported by the environmental impact statement. <br /> This process needs to move forward.Not only does MnDOT want to make decisions,but <br /> the City needs to know the layout so they can set budgets and priorities for improvements <br /> associated with these Highway 371 upgrades. Finally,by making decisions, the City <br /> Council will also give residents and businesses direction as to what to expect so they can <br /> plan and time so they can implement those plans. <br />
