Part Time Officers <br /> Initial use of the part time officers will be for 2-8hours shifts on the weekends throughout <br /> the summer. These shifts will be from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. <br /> This would be for 12 weeks. This would take us up until the 3`d week of August. <br /> 12 weeks at 16 hours per week totals 192 hours. <br /> Officers will be paid at a rate of$14.22 per hour. <br /> Budgeting this 192 hours X$15.50 per hour,the total amount is $2976 <br /> All of this would fall under the grant. If there is court time that comes up due to officer <br /> having to testify etc, I can then adjust their schedule however need be to offset the court <br /> time. <br /> What I plan on doing is see how the program goes and see what the benefit is to the City. <br /> In 4-6 weeks if everything is going smoothly and I see that the New Administrative <br /> Tickets are working well, I will then come ask the Council to allow some of the funds <br /> from the Admin Tickets to be used for paying for part time officers wages. This will <br /> come out of the Community Policing Fund that will be generated by the City <br /> Administrative Fines. <br /> I have also spoken to the City of Jenkins about this part time officer positions. They are <br /> willing to discuss giving us a portion of their City Admin Fine Monies to help fund the <br /> part time officers. They will be adopting our City Admin Fines at their June Council <br /> Mtg. <br /> I can see many benefits to having these part time officers on board. <br /> #1 It is a lot less expensive than having another full time officer with benefits etc. <br /> #2 Gives the city much more coverage than we currently have. <br /> #3 Allows for a 2nd Pequot Officer On duty for the busy times(weekends) On a night that <br /> an officer makes an arrest and has to take person to jail for DWI, Warrant etc,we loose <br /> that officer on the street in Pequot for minimum of 2 hours. <br /> #4 Reduces overtime, so that I can have a part-time officer fill in for full time officers <br /> when they take off. (part time at$15.50 per hours vs full time officer at time and a half <br /> to fill a shift.) <br /> r <br />
