Gary and Eric Loge
(218) 587 TRASH
(8727)
P O Box 677
WASTE PARTNERS INC. Pine River, MN 56474
February 15, 2006
Pequot Lakes City Council
31108 Government Drive
PO Box 361
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Cathy Malecha—Mayor
Dave Sjoblad—Councilman
Greg Welu—Councilman
Jerry Akerson - Councilman
Joanne Johnson—Councilperson
Justin Bolz-Andolshek—Councilman
Mary Pfeiffer—Councilperson
c.c. Marty Peisch—City Clerk
Dear Council,
I have enclosed the standard State of MN"Score Reporting Form" with information on
the type and quantity of recyclable material Waste Partners has collected from the City of
Pequot Lakes during January 2006.
Waste Partners has been providing curbside residential recycling to our customers in
Pequot Lakes since April of 2003. In January of this year our company serviced 107
homes including a trailer Park in the City limits with 63 participating in our curbside
recycling program. We also collect recycling from several businesses in town but is not
included in the information supplied.
I am writing this letter to begin a discussion with the City of Pequot Lakes about possible
funding opportunities for this program. Admittedly, our company began this program in
Pequot Lakes to improve the quality of services available and to hopefully attract new
customers. The City has no obligation for that decision. However, most residential
recycling services in the State of Minnesota exist only with government subsidy (Score
funds) since they can not support themselves. This requires municipalities to make
choices on how they choose to best utilize the funding they receive.
