AGENDA ITEM #10.3
REPORT TO
CITY COUNCIL
Date: March 8, 2006
Sub_i ect: Recycling
Report: Waste Partners is requesting the Council to make
SCORE funds available for curbside recycling. Presently
the City collects SCORE funds to cover the drop off
`.- program that has been available to area residents.
If the City decided to adopt a curb side program and not
eliminate the drop off site, some of the recycling costs
would have to be paid by the taxpayers. Currently, the cost
to the taxpayers is covered almost entirely by SCORE
funds.
In a conversation with Doug Morris, Crow Wing County
Solid Waste Coordinator, he indicated that implementing a
program like this would be an expense to the City. He also
indicated that the SCORE funding is not something that is
finite. Funding has been reduced and the County is picking
up the shortfall.
