oi 'o
Pequot Lakes Police Department
To: City Council
From: Eric Klang
CC: Adams, Pederson, Akerson, Ryan, Sjoblad
Date: 11/1/2012
Re: San Diego Conference
Comments: I wanted to send you a note thanking you for allowing me to attend the 119 IACP conference. This was
an excellent opportunity to learn from expert instructors and experienced police executives as we
discuss contemporary issues facing public safety. There were over 200 educational sessions available
to attend. Sessions like:
Building Public Trust by being transparent: Talked about how you build a culture of trust between us
and the public and other elected officials. We do this by following our core values, officer professional
code of conduct our goals leadership visibility and preparation.
Data as a driving force: we talked about how data and intelligence drive our strategy for our daily
operations, how technology makes it accessible and affordable. How collaboration is necessary for
effective operations accountability and professionalism.
-- Social Media challenges and opportunities: How to use social media to solve crimes, build community
support and enhance our daily operations.
Trust, Credibility peril, identifying the costs of increasing public scrutiny: We talked about how
agencies face more scrutiny than ever from citizens and the media all demanding more transparency,
more accountability and how this affects budgets and operational efficiency.
These are just a few of the classes not to mention the opportunities that I had at building partnerships
and exchanging ideas with folks just like me from agencies just like ours.
-
