city Of
PEQVOT
LAKES
TO: Pequot Lakes Business Owners
FROM: Kurt Eckardt, Roads and Streets Department
RE: City Ordinance relating to snow removal
DATE: January 9, 2006
It has been brought to our attention that there are several areas throughout our downtown
business district that the sidewalks are not being shoveled and maintained properly.
Ordinance No. 141 states, in a nutshell, that "All snow and ice remaining on a public
sidewalk more than 12 hours is a public nuisance and any person who maintains a
nuisance is guilty of City Ordinance No. 141. The owner or occupant of property
adjacent to a public sidewalk shall keep such walk safe for pedestrians. No owner or
occupant of property adjacent to a public sidewalk shall allow snow or ice to remain on
the walk longer than 12 hours after its deposit thereon. The City shall remove from such
public sidewalks all ice and snow after the snow has ceased to fall.
In order to keep public sidewalks safe for pedestrians, the City will remove the snow and
ice after the snow has ceased to fall, after you have failed to do so. The fee the City will
charge is$50.00 per hour, with a one hour minimum. This policy is effective
immediately.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact City Hall at 218-568-5222.
