AGENDA ITEM #11 . 2
REPORT TO
CITY COUNCIL
Date: February 7, 2006
Subject: No Snowmobiling Signs/Sidewalk Snow
Removal
Report: In response to a complaint regarding snow on
sidewalks, the City sent out letters to all business owners in
the downtown area to inform them that they must shovel
the snow on their sidewalks. The letter also stated that if the
snow is not shoveled, the City will have it shoveled and
charge the property owner (this is according to ordinance).
This letter created a few concerns from the business
owners. One concern is where to shovel the snow. In many
instances, the only place to shovel the snow is in the street.
Another concern is the fact that snowmobilers are
snowmobiling on the sidewalks and packing down the
snow. There has been a request for the City to purchase no
snowmobiling signs to place on the sidewalk. Kurt has
checked into the cost of the signs. Six signs cost $354.39.
