.
cZty of
Pequot
Lakes
DATE: 10-31-2012
TO: Mayor Adams and City Council
FROM: Lee Bundy
SUBJECT: Brown Water
As in the past I have outlined options from the information I have gathered up to the
point of this letter's date. Again I report to you the newest information I have and the
options I now present represent the best information I have gathered.
In early October Mayor Adams, Mike Loven and Lee Bundy met with Mike Roers from
MRWA to go over the water issue. From that meeting he recommends adding Carus 8100
which is a sequestering agent that will help to keep the water clean.
On October 18th I met with SEH to discuss another matter and I brought up the brown
water issue. One of the engineers on hand brought up a technique called "Unidirectional
„ Flushing" which is used by large Cities with multiple towers to achieve proper flow
velocity to scour pipes clean. WSN, and Bolton and Meinke would also be able to
provide this same service. Bolton and Meinke suggest that the Pequot Lakes system is too
small of a system to get good use of the money it would take to model the City.
`..
On October 30th I met with Joe Rubbelke from Infratech. This is the company we
contacted to do the poly pigging. His recommendation is to do no pigin in Pequot
Lakes. We spent several hours together going over city maps, talking about what we have
done, what we are doing, and what we are thinking of doing. From this meeting these are
my recommendations;
1. Council approves the purchase and use of Carus 8100 and the equipment necessary to
feed it. (Chemical Barrel $250.00 and 55 gal. poly) we have the rest.
The Meeting with Joe has brought to light two things; When or if, we start to feed the
Polvnhosnhate, the brown water will get worse before it clears up.
4638 CoUNI' RoAll 11 • PEUO'I' LAI.ES, Ii 56472 •(218) 568-5222 • Fx: (218) 568-5860 • wwwpequotlakes-mn.gov
