2006 Harley Davidson Motorcycle
Donahue sports out of St. Cloud and soon to be in Baxter is offering our
department an opportunity to lease a Police Harley Davidson Motor Cycle
for $1 per month for 12 months. At the end of the lease we can continue for
an additional 12 months at $1 per month for the same bike or upgrade to a
new 2007.
The cost to equip the bike with necessary lights and radio, radar and officer
helmet, jacket etc is between $35004000. This cost will be donated by a
local business who has already offered to discuss this program.
Officer Rich Hogan is certified with this motorcycle and has been a
Motorcycle officer with Mille Lacs PD in the past. He will be the only
officer authorized to operate this piece of equipment.
Benefits to the department and community will be better mobility during
events, such as parades, school events, crowded areas and also the
availability to get up and down the Paul Bunyan Trail and down in around
the resorts. The other benefit is for enforcement of traffic violators and
speed enforcement. Not many travelers will be looking for a Police
Motorcyle.
The Public relations that this will create will be un-measureable. We will
use this unit in local parades and events to promote our city and department.
The cost savings of fuel will be substantial. This unit in police work is
suppose to get around 45 mpg as to 12 mpg with a squad car. This will also
save approximately 10,000 miles on Officer Hogan's Police Squad Car per
year. When the squad car lease ends in 4 years, his car will have about V2
