United Packaging, Crosby DRAFT
United Packaging (UPI) specializes in the
design, testing, high volume manufacturing
and distribution of industrial packaging
products. UPI has several manufacturing
plants located in Minnesota and Wisconsin
with their corporate headquarters in
Crosby. UPI was leasing space, but due to
sales growth, needed to go from 5
employees to 8 employees and find a more
appropriate office. They contacted
CREDI/BLADC to explore the JOBZ
program, which proved a great fit. The
project was completed in June of 2005 and
turned a blighted property into a beautiful,
half-log-sided landmark for the business to
prosper and the City to appreciate. UPI
will occupy approximately half of the
building, while additional space will be
rented out to a new bike/canoe/kayak
rental and repair shop, beauty salon shop
and potentially one other tenant.
N Other Relationships N
Grow MN Visits
Partnering with the Brainerd Lakes Area
Chambers of Commerce (BLACC) only
seemed appropriate for a collaborative
Business Retention and Expansion (BRE)
program. In 2005, BLADC and BLACC
piloted the Minnesota Chamber's GROW
MN! program: a BRE effort that combined
all Minnesota business surveys in a data
bank to make Minnesota a better place to
do business. During the pilot, BLADC and
BLACC visited 10 area businesses. After
that, these two organizations signed on to
participate in the program for one full year
with a goal of 40 additional businesses. It
is a great opportunity to combine strengths
and thank our local businesses for
operating here and to find out how we can
help them continue their success.
20/20 Economic Vision
Douglas Machine, Irondale
