.
Minutes to meeting of
Pequot Lakes Community Library
Board of Directors
Tuesday, October 16, 2012
Chairman John Longnecker called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
Members present: John Longnecker, Sam Hennies, Lavone Sullivan, David Anderson
and Claire Nagel. Absent: Lydia Loven and Jean Clark.
Also present: Jerry Akerson, liaison with City Council
Sam Hennies, seconded by David Anderson, approved the minutes of the September 18
meeting.
Treasurer David Anderson gave the financial report.
Balance in the regular checking account is $7,310.14. Total of the three Endowment
CD's is $76,856.97. We also have a Rainy Day CD at Lakes State Bank of $5,000.
The Friends of the Library (FOTL) account totals $12,447.20. This includes $800, which
will come from Thrivent Financial Lutheran for Basket Auction supplemental funds.
Given that $800, the total earned from the Basket Auction was $8,122.15. The FOTL
account also includes a total of $350.02 ($97 from donation jar) from the brat sale. It was
decided that the income from the brat sale is enough to warrant our doing it next year
since SuperValu does most of the work for it.
Treasurer's report was accepted by Lavone Sullivan and seconded by Sam Hennies.
Regarding Kitchigami Legacy Programs, although many are successful, the two we
--- recently hosted for young children (K-3`d) were unattended by children. We discussed the
possibility of not hosting programs, depending upon subject matter, for young children.
We do have a very active children's activities group in our library. We will discuss with
Jean Clark.
Kitchigami is now providing e-books to its patrons. Someone from Kitchigami will be
coming the afternoon of October 18 to teach our volunteers how to use the system and
also teach patrons how to use it.
Our library is going to set up a continuous book sale in part of the meeting room. We'll
start the process after cleanup from the auction baskets. We'll ask patrons to suggest
names for the new bookstore.
We discussed the removal of the front doors from the computer room and the children's
room. We also discussed moving the sidewalk curb back from the building somewhat and
moving the handicap parking space to in front of the main door. Lavone Sullivan
motioned and Sam Hennies seconded the motion to give John Longnecker the authority
to get an opinion from Mike Loven about, and then to proceed to get bids on, these
proj ects.
Claire Nagel will use her column next week to ask for a volunteer fundraiser coordinator.
Lavone Sullivan moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Claire Nagel, at 7:30 p.m.

Next meeting will be Tuesday, November 20, 6:30 p.m.
