MF 1W 1W IWF 1W
Region Five
DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
Pequot Lakes Area Resident Survey Results
Introduction
The area resident survey is the final of three surveys conducted for the Pequot Lakes
community. The purpose of this survey was to understand the opinions and attitudes of
Pequot Lakes residents in relation the MN 371 expansion project. This survey was the
most complex and scientific of the trio.
Methodology
This survey was conducted as a scientifically valid random sample telephone survey of
Pequot Lakes residents. The sample data used was a list of 3,285 Pequot Lakes area
residents. This list was purchased from Whitepages.com and included all listed
residential phone numbers in the 55472 zip code. To achieve a random sample the list
was randomized and given to each surveyor. A total of 306 surveys were conducted,
giving this survey a margin of error of approximately+/- 5.5% at a 95% confidence level.
The margin or error will vary slightly for each question depending on the number of
respondents, but in general the margin of error remains below+/- 6% at a 95%
confidence level.
For example, in the survey findings that follow 44% of the residents surveyed thought
that the bypass route would be better for the future of Pequot Lakes. This means that
there is a 95% chance that the true proportion of the Pequot Lakes residents that feel the
bypass will be the better option for Pequot Lakes future is between 38.5% and 49.5%
(44% +/- 5.5%).
A total of 1360 calls were made to obtain 306 completed surveys. The survey response
rate was 23%.
This survey was conducted and completed under the following timeline:
The questions were approved by the committee prior to Saturday 10/27/07
The Area Resident Survey took place
Saturday, October 27th, 2007 - 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (10 hrs)
Sunday October 28th, 2007— 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (6 hrs)
Monday October 29th, 2007—3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (4 hrs)
1
