S. Census Bureau. It seems too early to begin the
process for the 2010 Census, but the U. S. Census Bureau has a very strict
timeline for municipalities to compare the Census Bureau address list with
actual housing units in each municipality and make any necessary appeals or
challenges. Local units of government that do not take part in this LUCA
Program will be unable to challenge the State Demographer's estimates of
population and household estimates between the 2010 and the 2020 census.
Census data are used for apportionment of Congressional seats,
appropriation of Federal funds, State fund distribution and provides accurate
local statistical data.
Earlier this year the City purchased new Arc GIS software for the Zoning
Office. There is a free add-on from ESRI that supports the LUCA software
package. I will keep the Council updated on our progress with this
adventure.
Completed October 31, 2007 2
