CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES
MONTHLY WATER/WASTEWATER REPORT
AUGUST 2007
Prepared by:Tina Nolden(Water/WW Manager)
WATER PLANT:
All is working well. August I x,I replaced our potassium permanganate pump and some
of the tubing. August 23rd,Dave Guillet with Tonka Co. came to the water plant and taught me
all about how to get the best results from our Tonka filter. He was very informative and helpful.
Lance and I have been doing some extra cleaning and organizing at the water plant. It's looking
very nice!
WATER DISTRIBUTION:
August 1"9 I had Pratt's Excavating repair a broken water service line behind Damien
Boynton's house at 30899 South Heath Street. Everything went well with that.August 2nd,Mike,
Lance and I isolated the east and west sides of town and flushed several hydrants quite
thoroughly to draw out more brown water. I believe this finally took care of it all. I tested several
areas again for chlorine on the 3rd.and the levels were back to where they should be.August e,I
met with Tim Houle,Mark Hallan,Todd Butz with Tonka Co.and Dave Schindeldeckear with
DPC,our chemical supplier. We went over everything at the water plant and completely ruled
out the possthility of our treatment processes having anything to do with the brown water.
August 10 ,1 tested the same areas for chlorine and the levels were a bit high at three dead-end
`., locations.I thoroughly flushed all throe and now have normal levels again. The higher chlorine
appears to have come from Trailside Estates, but what matters now is that it is finally out of the
distribution system and our terrible brown-water issues are over This has been a very interesting,
yet exaspetaft, learning experience for all involved.
August 3rd,it was brought to my attention that the gate valve in front of Whalen Woods
was kmfdn .I asked Mike and Tim about it,and they both felt it would be best to replace the
valve sometime after Labor Day.We will need to isolate the valve and this will cause several
businesses to be without water for awhile, i am in the process of coordinating things with Tom's
Backhoe and Anderson Brothers.
The Lonesome Cottage project on Morehouse Drive has begun. Kasper Excavating is the
contractor for the water and sewer look-ups to the building.Tim Houle and I met with them on
August 23rd to go over all questions/concerns.Things are going well.
WASTEWATER:
August 2na1 TEAM lab sprayed the sewer ponds for weeds again. The chemical works
very well. August 10, I attended a wastewater class sponsored by MRWA. It covered topics on
inflow and infiltration,jetter nozzles,mapping software,and locating equipment. As always,it
was a very good class.August 176,I replaced the limit switch on the south irrigator. I have
looked over the motor tower components on all three irrigators and there are a few that need
some work. I will take care of them this fall.August 19'x,1 added mot killer to MH#78(Near
Cole Bldg.)and MH#30(Near PLHS).Just ensuring the roots won't be causing us any
problems.August 20'x,Lance and I jetted from MH#38(North of Pestello's)all the way to MH
#77(At Front St.and Tower Square).
