July 31, 2007 To: Pequot Lakes City Council Pequot Lakes Planning and Zoning Re: Request to amend Sign Ordinance #5Aii Dear Honorable Mayor Malecha, City Council members and Planning and Zoning, The Pequot Lakes/Breezy Point Advisory Committee of the Brainerd Lakes Chamber researched the sign ordinance #5Aii and after discussion with many business owners and looking at other communities' ordinances feel that this is too restrictive for the local businesses. The Brainerd Lakes Chamber is asking the City of Pequot Lakes to amend the ordinance #5Aii. The ordinance now reads: • Sign area is calculated as the total area of signage and shall include all area bound by a rectangle that encompasses the markings that comprise the sign. For two-sided signs, each side shall be counted) The Brainerd Lakes Chamber is asking you to amend the ordinance to read as follows: • Sign area is calculated as the total signage and shall include all area bound by a rectangle that encompasses the markings that comprise the sign. For two-sided signs, only one side constitutes the calculated area. Adequate and appropriate signage is extremely important to the businesses to market and advertise their business and to stay competitive in the market place.
