County so that the bins could be picked up more frequently.
The City also added oil and filter recycling to its recycling
center. The City will receive $11,650 in 2007 for its
recycling program. The program is currently covered 100%
by SCORE Funds. Nisswa Sanitation is our current
Recycling Provider.
The City has several options in regard to these requests:
1 . Do nothing and continue to offer the drop-off
recycling program — paid for by SCORE funding.
2. Subsidize the haulers who are requesting assistance
from the City with curbside recycling. We are not sure
how many actual haulers there are in the City. We have
currently been asked by two haulers to subsidize their
curbside recycling programs. If the Council did subsidize
these two haulers and another hauler came forward, I would
assume the City would be obligated to treat all of the
haulers in the same manner.
3. Consider organized garbage collection in the City. If
this were the direction of the Council, then I would suggest
forming a committee to discuss all of the issues. Organized
collection involves the City contracting with one hauler for
the entire City. Residents would not be able to choose their
hauler. The City would regulate the garbage service and
also do the billing for the service.
Council Action Requested: Council direction regarding
`- this request.
