Pequot Lakes Police Dept.
Report to the City Council
April 26, 2007
For the month of April the Department has logged 212 individual ICRs.
Current Activities:
The Reserves, Part time and Full time Officers continued to conduct separate business and home
security checks throughout the month.
The whole department continues to learn the new record system, along with the rest of law
enforcement throughout the county. Officers are working to learn the in-squad computer system and all
personnel are learning to navigate the record system. Office Manager Wedan has been busy designing
several code tables, setting up our Dept's permissions, formats and procedures; training officers,
reserves and developing a use manual; and monitoring our Dept. use to coordinate with other Agency
Administrators at other departments and the county. Please bear with us as we learn to use the system
efficiently; including designing a reporting system to provide you with your monthly report.
On Thursday, April 12th, the Police and Fire Departments along with other local ambulance service, air
care and other emergency services presented a MOC DUI crash site demonstration to the Junior and
Senior classes of the Pequot Lakes High School, their parents and community members. The life like
simulation was done 2 days before the students had their prom; and included showing what jobs the
emergency personnel have to do for these types of situations. At the end of the crash site
demonstration, a MOC death notification was also performed to show how an officer would have to tell
a parent that their child had just died. Brenny Funeral home also helped by picking up the 'deceased'
student at the 'crash site' and explaining their role in the funeral preparation process. These
demonstrations have been shown to make a positive impact on the student's choice to not drink and
drive. Officer Josh Gartner did an excellent job of being in charge of coordinating all of the aspects of
this demonstration.
Training:
April 17th: All full-time officers attended Mandatory Annual training on a variety of subjects
including, blood and airborne pathogen, Hazmat and FATS here at the dept. And then
were joined by several reserves at the High School to train on use of force and
defensive tactics
25th: All full and part-time officers attended a Fire Arms qualification training at Camp
Ripley. This training provided opportunities for the officers to work with the bases
Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun courses. Officer Rich Hogan set up this great training
opportunity for the whole Dept.
Significant Cases:
❖ All of the department has been involved in some aspect of the recent school issues.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jerry Braam
Chief of Police
