CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES
MONTHLY WATER/WASTEWATER REPORT
JANUARY 2007
Prepared by: Tina Nolden (Water/WW Operator)
Water Plant: Everything is working well. Soon,I will need to regenerate the filter. This needs to be
done occasionally to thoroughly clean the filter media. I updated our daily log sheet for recording test
results, chemical usage and pump readings. On January 26"'and 27th,I attended a class at St. Cloud
Technical College. It covered water testing for small systems and it was very informative. The college
received a grant from USEPA, so the class was free to attend and they provided hotel accommodations.
Well worth taking advantage of They have many classes throughout the year and I plan on attending at
least one each month.
Water Distribution: We(The Water/WW Committee)have been looking into our water and sewer
rates. We met with Mike Roers from MN Rural Water to determine where we're at and where we need
to be. He personally feels that we are on the right track. However, we do need to look into the future and
determine just how much money we need to be putting away to take care of any Water Plant/WW Plant
upgrades, as well as replacing old infrastructure. These items can be quite costly and we need to get
sufficient monies put away for such projects. This is something we could use some help with. 1,
personally, do not know just how much money is needed each year to comfortably take care of these
things that will eventually need to be addressed. A rate study could help with this.
Wastewater: Problem-area manholes are being checked daily, including weekends, so we can catch
any problems right away. I've been using foaming root killer where needed and I feel that it's working
quite well. January 5th, Lance and I flushed MH#'s 56 and 101 (Low-flow areas) and added root killer.
January 12th, I attended a Hwy. 371 meeting at the MPCA building, which addressed concerns of the
highway going through our spray irrigation site. That same day I received my Safety Grant Items: Tri-
pod with winch and self-retracting lifeline, harness, and SCBA with facemask. These items will allow
me to safely enter manholes and meter pits. The SCBA will stay at the Water Plant for chlorine-leak
situations. January 25t`, I ordered some more foaming root killer and a drum of Lift Station Degreaser.
I'm hoping the degreaser will work as well as the root killer. Also,on the 2501, Lance and I flushed a few
more manholes(MH#'s 14, 16, and 32)and added root killer/enzymes to those needing it. Then,we
jetted from MH#31 to 32 and then 32 to 31 to break up roots. We put root killer in at MH#32. This line
runs through the TDS parking lot and I believe the bus garage is the only building on it. There is very
little flow so it needs to be cleaned a little more often.
Other: With Paul Sandelin's help,we've put together a Mutual-Aid Agreement with the Pine River
Area Sanitary District. Currently, Scott Warner(Facility Manager of PRASD)has been helping out with
holidays and weekends. This has made my job much more appealing. I really enjoy my work, but I
would like to have some time to enjoy my life, outside of work, as well. This Mutual-Aid Agreement
will greatly help.
