Sign Permit-Oasis Center
Staff has been contacted by a tenant of the Oasis Center who inquired about promotional
signage. The Ordinance states in Section 7.1, subpart 3. B. Exempt Sign, that
"Temporary signs, including banners, streamers and portable signs, are allowedfor
special events such as grand openings and promotions provided they are not in place
longer than 14 days during any 90 day period. The tenant placed a portable sign at the
edge of the parking lot. At the end of the 14 day period, the tenant requested permission
to extend her temporary sign. She also stated that there was no existing sign from the
previous tenant that she could reface. At this paint the City Planner and Staff decided we
needed to extend the temporary sign and obtain direction from the Planning Commission.
Regulating signage at the Oasis Center has been contentious in the past.
After extending the temporary sign, Staff was informed that there is a location for a
permanent sign. The tenant is seeking permission to continue the use of the temporary
sign indefinitely.
Staff will submit additional information, including photographs, at the meeting.
