STAFF REPORT
Application: Rezoning from Rural Residential to Rural Residential(RR)
Parcel # 2900311o1A00009, Bonnie Watt,property owner
Applicant: City of Pequot Lakes
Background: The property in question is located on the north side of the City on County Road
112. The property is about 10 acres in size and was zoned Rural Residential under the previous
Ordinance.
OUTSIDE OF THE CITY
Old:Rwd Re<ideerid
New:Rwd R—W.Wid
Old:Rural ResideNi'd
Old:AgricufWM Old:turd Resldealid New:Rural R«
fwnst
:M-0--A New;Rwd R«ide tiw
4.
Old:Rurd Residential
Mawr:f and Raidwdial
•y _
Old:Ag—II—1
New:Agriculture
This property has not yet been rezoned as a separate public hearing had been requested by the
property owner. The proposed new zone for the property would be Rural Residential, following
the standards adopted in the new Ordinance. The property owner has requested that the
property be rezoned to Commercial District. On behalf of Ms.Watt, Mr.Thomas has stated that
his client is opposed to the new proposed district classification of Rural Residential and believes
that the property should be classified as Commercial.
The Planning Commission and the City Council have both reviewed this rezoning earlier this
year, with the Council failing to either approve or deny the Planning Commission's
recommendation. It should be noted, however, that the Commission's discussion regarding this
property should be regarding the rezoning recommendation only, which is entirely
separate and disconnected from any violation history that this property or this property owner
has. The rezoning recommendation comes to the Commission as part of the City-wide rezoning
process to make all properties consistent with the new Land Use and Subdivision Ordinance
adopted last summer.
Applicable Statutes: Section 5.1, Subdivision 7 outlines the criteria that should be considered
when amending the official zoning map or establishing a zoning classification:
City of Pequot Lakes Staff Report 2-1
' November 16,2Oo6
