We have placed you on the upcoming Planning Commission Agenda for this
public hearing which will be held on April 20, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. Your public hearing is
the second hearing on the agenda.
As you may already know, the City of Pequot Lakes recently adopted a new Land Use
and Subdivision Ordinance. The City is in the process of rezoning all properties within
the City to conform to the new zoning classifications in the ordinance and to conform to
the goals described in the City's Comprehensive Plan.
6
The City has proposed to rezone one of your parcels from Forestry to Agriculture, as
described in the new Ordinance. The purpose and intent of the Agriculture zone is to
provide a zoning classification for the preservation of family farms and small-scale
agricultural uses and to allow for low density residential development compatible with
those uses. Development patterns are characterized as very low density residential
without municipal utility service and with only limited demand for accessibility.
Agriculture zoning should be used to preserve rural character.
The City has proposed to rezone three of your parcels from Forestry to Forest
Management, as described in the new Ordinance. The purpose and intent of the Forest
Management zone is to provide a zoning classification for sustainable management of
forested areas, to establish and maintain timber resources,to protect the natural
environment,to preserve undeveloped areas and to provide recreation opportunities.
Development patterns are characterized as very low-density residential without municipal
R
3
T
