Research report, based on the 2005 sampling schedule, pointed to a
consistent trend of decreased ortho and total phosphorus in the ground water, illustrating
the golf course management is doing an excellent job of controlling the chemical
application balance needed to grow turf without contaminating ground and surface water.
The 10 year statistics also show a consistent downward trend in contaminants.
*Two exceptions, holes 10 and 15 show slight spikes, the causes of which management will
tweak during the 2006 season.
*One point of interest unrelated to the golf course was the ortho and total phosphorus
being monitored in the four wetlands. Wetlands #1, 2, and 3 south of The Preserve also
have shown a consistent decline, whereas the beaver dam wetland east of The Preserve and
abutting a new large private home that has been cited by the DNR, SWCD, and Crow Wing
County for numerous shoreland violations involving extensive clear cutting and earth
moving in the impact zones and wetlands has shown an increase in ortho and total
phosphorus five times greater than the five year average prior to construction.
"'The meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m. The 2007 meeting was set for 11:00 a.m.
at the Preserve Golf Course Clubhouse on the first Friday in May.
1
