STAFF REPORT <br /> Application: Variance for a Sign Exceeding the Height Limit <br /> Applicant: Lonesome Cottage <br /> Agenda Item:3(b) <br /> Background: The property in question is located on the southern end of downtown on the <br /> west side of State Highway 371, in between the Oasis gas station and the Gloria Dei church <br /> property. The property contains an existing retail structure and related parking area, with <br /> shared access through the Oasis parking lot. The property is currently zoned Downtown Mixed <br /> Use(DMU). <br /> Lake Sr r <br /> Mal <br /> t <br /> The applicant is seeking to add a retail sign for the business on the property.The proposed sign <br /> measures ninety(go) square feet in size, with the applicants requesting that the sign be 25 feet <br /> high. <br /> Applicable Statutes: The purpose and intent of the Downtown Mixed Use(DMU) zone is to <br /> provide a mix of high-density residential and commercial uses. Development in this zone relies <br /> less on automobile traffic and more on walking, biking, and other similar modes of <br /> transportation. Infrastructure must be in place to provide on-street parking and walkways as <br /> well as connection to municipal water and sanitary sewer utilities.
