Bernice Rohde, Lakes State Bank: If CUP;s were approved with only neighbors making
recommendations, there could be problems if new owners of neighboring properties
disagreed with the past recommendations.
Mark Jurchen: When using an exclusionary process, it is important that you take a
thorough look and clearly define the uses.
What should be on the list: slaughter house, adult uses, and light industrial uses to start
with.
Big box stores, chain stores, put them on excluded list?
Bernice Rohde: Why would you not let the community grow? If those stores come in,
they are good for the community. Bernice would say yes.
Some small town feel might be lost with the big box stores. Some of the local stores may
be put out of business.
There is nothing in the ordinance addressing franchise stores.
The Planning Commission pointed out that we should not try to include or exclude
certain types of businesses because we maybe already have them.
`.. Staff was directed to create a list as a starting point.
Current regulations: Perhaps the easiest place to start is with the current ordinance.
The following are the list of uses allowed, permitted (require a permit), accessory
(require the establishment of a principle use first),conditional and excluded.
Allowed
Animals, Domestic
Child Care, Family Home
Community Park
Home Occupation, Type I
Home Occupation, Type II
Off-street parking
Allowed(with performance standards)
Temporary Structure
Signs, Portable
Fish House
Recreational Vehicle
Open Storage
`• Camping
Pequot Lakes Staff Report 7(b)-2
October 16,2008
