MINUTES <br /> �-- PEQUOT LAKES PLANNING COMMISSION <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> FEBRUARY 22,2007 <br /> PRESENT: Bill Habein, Dean Williams,Tom Woog, Roger Varilek, Scott Pederson and <br /> John Derksen. ABSENT: Tom Adams and Mark Hallan. <br /> CITY PLANNER: Charles Marohn, PE. <br /> ZONING ADMINISTRATOR: Dawn Bittner. <br /> The meeting was called to order by Tom Woog at 7:03 p.m. <br /> APPLICANT: Michelle R Lelwica <br /> Applicant requests a Conditional Use Permit for 24-Hour Fitness Center. <br /> Mr. Marohn explained this is a Special Meeting and the Planning Commission can only <br /> discuss the special meeting item on the Agenda. <br /> Applicant was present. Mr. Marohn explained the Staff Report. <br /> MARK HALLAN ARRIVED AT 7:05 p.m. <br /> The applicant stated that Snap Fitness is a franchise with approximately 200 stores,with <br /> one in Brainerd. This center would have 24-hour surveillance with key card entry. The <br /> Police Department will have 6 cards. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: <br /> Warren Sunderland, Paul Bunyan Trailside building owner, stated that they own the <br /> building with 24-hour Fitness and wondered if the town is big enough for two franchises. <br /> He asked if in the future he so desired, could he build another grocery store,night club or <br /> off-sale establishment, even though one may already exist within the City. <br /> Mr. Marohn explained that the City does not regulate the number of uses,only the uses <br /> themselves to make sure they operate within the ordinance. Liquor licenses are regulated <br /> by State Statutes. <br /> Chris Close, Close-Converse, was in attendance representing Kermit Sutton. He stated <br /> that Snap Fitness Centers are common among other retail and commercial businesses. <br /> Parking issues were discussed. Staff reported that the Street Superintendent, Mike <br /> Loven,had a concern with parking on Government Drive during the night in the winter <br /> Planning Commission Minutes 1 <br /> Special Meeting February 22,2007 <br />
