ABSENT: Mary Peterson.
CITY PLANNER: Charles Marohn, PE, AICP
ZONING ADMINISTRATOR: Dawn Bittner
COUNCIL LIAISON: Craig Nagel
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Woog at 6:32 p.m.
Chairman Woog opened the public hearings.
APPLICANT: Hunt Technologies,LLC.
Applicant requests to Rezone from Rural Residential to Commercial(continuation).
Mr. Marohn explained the Staff Report. Mike Renford, Facilities Manager and Barry
Sell, Hardware Quality Test Manager for Hunt Technologies, represented applicant.
They are now requesting that the parcels be rezoned to Light Industrial, consistent with
what it had been prior to the city-wide rezoning. Mr. Marohn explained it was not the
City's intent to downzone any properties.
Mr. Renford stated the Staff Report is correct. At the time the Comprehensive Plan was
adopted Hunt Technologies did not receive the communication regarding the rezone. If
they had they would have opted out and had a separate public hearing.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
Mr. Habein stated that Light Industrial is an appropriate classification as it does not
require infrastructure like Commercial would. Light Industrial would reinstate their
status as it was zoned Light Industrial in the past. Light Industrial would be adequate and
he agreed with the Staff recommendation.
Mr. Williams stated that the Staff Report does not include a recommendation. These
parcels were discussed and may be miss-zoned or the use is not appropriate. The last
sentence of the Staff Report is incorrect;the parcels are only zoned Rural Residential.
Rezoning these parcels to Commercial may have the potential for many misuses. Uses
don't always fit the layout of where the City wants to be and should be.
Minutes 1
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
August 20, 2009
