SuperValu Sign Concept Plan Review,Leroy Signs-
Mr. Marohn explained that SuperValu was required to submit a sign plan for review by
the Planning Commission. The proposed signs meet all requirements of the code with the
exception that no signs are allowed on accessory structures. The canopy for the gas
pumps is an accessory structure. They would need approval for that by the Planning
Commission. The other signs meet the ordinance. Staff has not notified them that they
need a Conditional Use Permit for the signs on the canopy.
Chairman Woog asked what the ordinance says regarding size for the monument sign.
Staff read from the ordinance. Chairman Woog stated that the applicant had requested a
speed reduction south to Pillsbury Street. MN/DOT has submitted a letter stating that
they will look at reducing the speed in front of the new store once it is open. If the speed
is reduced there would be different sign parameters.
A motion was made by Tom Woog, seconded by Deb Brown,to approve the freestanding
sign at the 35 mph requirements where they are allowed up to 64 square feet of
freestanding sign and to approve the signs on the building fagade as presented. All
members voted"aye". Motion carried.
Minutes 5
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
April 15, 2010
