MINUTES PEQUOT LAKES PLANNING COMMISSION REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING FEBRUARY 18,2010 PRESENT: Tom Adams, Bill Habein, Dean Williams, Tom Woog, John Derksen and Mark Hallan. ABSENT: Deb Brown and Scott Pederson. CITY PLANNER: Charles L. Marohn, Jr., PE,AICP ZONING ADMINISTRATOR: Dawn Bittner COUNCIL LIAISON: Craig Nagel The meeting was called to order by Chairman Woog at 5:36 p.m. Comprehensive Plan Discussion: Economic Development Section— Mr. Marohn explained the changes made to the Intent section and that the Background paragraph has been rewritten. Three sections have been added to the Background section: Business Park, Downtown and Highway 371 Corridor. Chairman Woog informed everyone that he had attended a meeting of the SWOT Committee the previous week and had explained to them how the information for the Comprehensive Plan Update had been collected. It was suggested at that meeting that the information be discussed at the Planning Commission level and the update be taken to the Economic Development Committee, the Chamber and other groups to see what may have been missed. The Business Inventory is being updated and that information will be inserted. The Business Inventory may give an indication of growth. The School is an asset and should be recognized. Import/export business should be included;the comments are included in the January Minutes. A positive spin could be put on the recession due to the businesses moving to Pequot Lakes. Why businesses are moving here could be the groundwork for a more comprehensive plan than growing the market. Policies section: Mr. Marohn explained that these have not been updated yet.
