The Wellhead Protection Team met August 9 with Mark Wettlaufer of the
Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to discuss the changes made to Part 1 of
the update. The new Drinking Water Supply Management Area (DWSMA) is
approximately half the size of the previous DWSMA. This is primarily due to the
method used to calculate the capture zone boundary.
The Team directed Staff to request the MDH to review the updated Wellhead
Protection Plan, Part i Report, for approval.
The Wellhead Protection Rule requires the City to hold a public information
meeting regarding the delineations and vulnerability assessments. This meeting
will be held at the October 2 City Council meeting. Mr. Wettlaufer will attend to
answer any questions you may have.
Staff will meet with Mr. Wettlaufer in early October to begin the update of Part 2.
The draft update will be submitted for local review in January, 2013. The public
hearing will be held at the Apri12, 2oi3 City Council meeting and the amended
Plan will be submitted to the MDH in April, 2oi3. The Plan must be approved by
the MDH by July 15, 2013.
