PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
4638 County Road'11 Pequot Lakes, MN 56472 (218)568-8201 Fax(218)568-7672
peguotfd@peguotlakes-mn.gov
March 2, 2008
Planning and Zoning
4638 County road 11
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Dear Planning and Zoning Members,
The Pequot Lakes Fire department is concerned about fire protection in the Wilderness Resort area.
Currently, in order to provide water to this area, as with any rural area, we have to shuttle water with
tankers. This is not as effective as we would like. The length of Wilderness Road, along with the
design of the road as it becomes a private drive slow down the amount of water we can deliver to the
development in a timely manner.
We understand that the developer is planning on installing four wells in the resort area. We would like
to have Planning and Zoning suggest that the developer put in an outlet at each of the four wells for the
fire department to use for fire protection. This would be a solution to providing water for fire coverage
to this area. It may in fact help future homeowners with their insurance ratings, as many insurance
companies give lower rates to dwellings that are within a certain vicinity of a hydrant.
This seems to be the best solution for this area If you or the developers have any questions please let
me know. We would be more than happy to meet with anyone regarding this.
Sincerely,
Tom Nelson, Chief
Pequot Lakes Fire Department
