c. Official Road Plan Update
The City Planner and the City Engineer had an opportunity to meet on this item. The
City Engineer is preparing a map that should be ready for Planning Commission review
by the February meeting.
d. Ordinance Amendment, Signs in City Parks
The Pequot Lakes Park Board has recently asked the City about installing signs to
identify City Parks throughout the City of Pequot Lakes. Under the current City
Ordinance this would perhaps not be allowed. The following is proposed ordinance
language that would clearly allow the Park Board,or any other City department,to install
necessary signs. If the Planning Commission approves the language a public hearing will
be scheduled for the March meeting to amend the ordinance.
7.1 Signs
2. Required Permits. All signs are considered structures and require a Zoning
Permit, except signs placed by the City, County or State to relate the laws or
ordinances, or to promote the health safety and welfare of the
community, which are exempt, and signs exempted in 7.1(3).
e. Staff Interpretation:Access Requirements
Within the subdivision process, the Ordinance requires:
"Each lot shall have a minimum of 33 feet of frontage on a designated right of way.
Commonly owned property or Green Space used for access in a Planned Unit Development
shall have a minimum of 33 feet of frontage on a public right of way'."
The Planning Department has received a request to split a lot along Highway 371 in a
manner where there is a front lot and a back lot. The back lot would clearly not have
right of way frontage. We informed the potential applicant that this proposal would not
meet the requirements of the Ordinance.
The potential applicant has prepared a drawing that would create a 33 400t lot running
along the side of both properties. The proposal is that this third lot would be jointly
owned by the owners of both of the other lots and would serve as the access. The
potential applicant requested that the Planning Commission give an opinion on this
proposal.
Section 9.4, Subdivision 8
February 2008 Staff Report Page 18
