The purpose of this newsletter is to share some information of work accomplished in 2008 and to provide
information in applying for a 2009 grant.
We are now preparing to complete the remaining project work started in 2008. The grant was approved in
January 2008 for$6,550.00 in cash from the DNR and$2,850.00 of matching funds gathered from volunteer work
and private dollars. The DNR recommended two projects to be done in 2008. We worked with the staff to select
one private pilot project and to complete the proposed work at the public access.
The John and Laurie Lopez property was selected by our committee as the private property from four
applications. They did the work on their shoreline with resource help from Heather Baird, DNR Shoreline Habitat
Specialist, and businesses specializing in shoreline native plant sales. They removed some existing vegetation
and added some topsoil to prepare the site. After extensive work in native plant selection, they planted the area.
{
l
k
3
nc
r
f J
The DNR maintenance staff graded and formed the site at the public access. This work consisted of grading the
parking area next to the Paul Bunyan Trail along Janco Lane, grading the area around the boat ramp, and
111212009
