❑ Keep citizens and local groups involved as advocates and volunteers for implementing the goals of the Comprehensive Plan. ❑ Provide new property owners with a welcome packet outlining Best Management Practices for specific property types. E. Create a tour map that highlights historical,archeological, scenic, and natural places of interest in Pequot Lakes.The map should include different routes for people walking, biking or driving. It should contain the location of landmarks together with interesting stories that help people to understand the heritage of Pequot Lakes. LONG-TERM ACTIONS (S YEARS AND BEYOND): ❑ Provide information for school programs to teach local history and traditions. ❑ Restore and preserve historical buildings and sites. Consider them as future locations for a museum, library,community center,or other community institution. ❑ Partner with the school district and volunteer groups to organize heritage festivals and community storytelling events. ❑ Work with community groups to hold events celebrating the heritage of Native Americans and early settlers to the area. i PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED ACTIONS ❑ Monitor commercial development along roadways by adopting a zoning strategy that strengthens the downtown commercial area, permits sensible development, and retains forested gateways leading into Pequot Lakes. ❑ Develop zoning strategies that facilitate the removal of blighted and un-maintained properties (cars on front lawn,etc)that detracts from Pequot's character. ❑ Provide for orderly business development in clustered, properly zoned development areas in the City. ❑ Designate a rural, urban, and rural/urban transition zone in order to maintain the integrity of these distinct areas. Each zone should promote development that fits within the context of existing development. ❑ Conduct research and seek professional help when needed to make informed land-use decisions. ❑ Make local rules,regulations,and policies readily available to the public on-line and at City Hall. ❑ Review the Comprehensive Plan bi-annually to measure the progress made and conduct updates that involve the public as needed.
