`- G. Answers citizens' requests for information including directions, regulations, <br />ordinances, and where to obtain additional information. <br />4. Additional Duties <br />A. Operates and assists in maintaining all equipment and vehicles used by the <br />department. <br />B. Keeps firearms clean and operating and maintains proficiency in firearm use, self- <br />defense, and first aid. <br />C. Performs other duties when assigned or when necessary. <br />D. Mal<es recommendations to the Yolice Chief� on an�v inatter that will irnpro� e the <br />fimctionin« of the Police De�artment. <br />Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: <br />• Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of police personnel supervision. <br />• Considerable knowledge of department policies, rules, regulations, and of controlling <br />laws, ordinances, and court decisions, or the ability to acquire such knowledge in a <br />relatively short period of time. <br />` • Considerable knowledge of the geography of the City and local area and of buildings and <br />areas requiring special attention, or the ability to acquire such knowledge in a relatively <br />short period of time. <br />• Considerable skill in handling and discharging firearms in an efficient and safe manner. <br />• Considerable skill to expertly drive a motor vehicle under any condition. <br />• Considerable ability to analyze situations and determine appropriate action. <br />• Considerable ability to respond quickly and appropriately to crisis and emergency <br />situations. <br />• Considerable ability to apply laws to specific incidents. <br />• Considerable ability to deal tactfully but firmly with offenders, suspects, witnesses; and <br />to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, <br />enforcement agency representatives and the general public. <br />• Considerable ability to see, hear, and remember people, evidence, facts, and <br />circumstances. <br />• Considerable ability to communicate effectively with others and maintain strict <br />confidentiality. <br />• Considerable ability to work, independently, without direct supervision. <br />• Considerable ability to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time <br />• Considerable ability to bend, crouch, stoop, stretch or crawl periodically as needed. <br />• Considerable ability to lift and carry or drag objects or people weighing up to 100 pounds <br />during a lake or accident rescue and to subdue suspects as required. <br />�-' • Considerable ability to operate a radio and other department equipment. <br />S:\Sandy Documents�EmployeesVob Descriptions�Revisions�2012\Sergeant.doc <br />3 of 4 <br />
